Après un long périple - certains sont encore en course - nous renouons avec une course sur maxi trimaran, imaginée par Lillian (Llyl), le récent vainqueur du Vendée Globe 2012-2013. Jean-Luc (Tours_ist) m'a aidé dans la réalisation de cette carte.Elle comporte les éléments suivants:
- Une carte vectorielle du globe résolution intermédiaire.
- Les côtes précises pour l'Afrique du Sud, une partie de l'Antarctique, le sud et le centre de la Nouvelle-Zélande, le Cap Horn.
- Les polaires avec voiles pros (HopeHorn2013_AO.nav) ou avec les seules voiles standard (HopeHorn2013_SO.nav).
- Le serveur de vents configuré (vrtoutoulz.fr/hopehorn/TIME+1/long/early).
- Les positions de la bouée de départ, des deux bouées à valider entre l'île nord et l'île sud de Nouvelle-Zélande et du cercle d'arrivée.
- Un parcours valide tracé au plus près de la route orthodromique. Ce parcours n'est cependant en aucune façon une suggestion de stratégie !
N'oubliez pas que la récupération de la position de votre bateau et de celles de vos amis nécessite un paramétrage qui est décrit dans cet article.

Attention : la route orthodromique passe par l'Antarctique. La carte VRTool est très différente de celle utilisée par MP. Il faut donc se fier à l'extraction des côtes - en rouge sur l'illustration ci-dessous - que vous pourrez éventuellement compléter (je n'ai extrait que la partie de trouvant près de la route orthodromique).
De, plus à ces latitudes élevées, il y a une différence énorme entre les cases carrées de l'interface VR et celles - trapézoïdales - obtenues par la projection de Mercator (à 66° de latitude sud, la grande base du trapèze mesure 24.88 NM, sa petite base 23.92 NM et sa hauteur - invariable - 60 NM). Il est fortement recommandé d'utiliser VRTool et/ou Pacotool pour calculer vos routes et de faire attention aux approximations engendrées par l'interface. Vous pouvez relire avec profit le chapitre 15.4 du guide.

- A vectorial map of the world using an intermediate resolution.
- The detailed coasts for South Africa, a part of the Antarctic, the south and center of New Zeland and the Cape Horn.
- The polars with pro sails (HopeHorn2013_AO.nav) or with standard sails (HopeHorn2013_SO.nav)
- The wind server (vrtoutoulz.fr/hopehorn/TIME+1/long/early).
- The start buoy, the two buoys between the southern and northern islands of New-Zeland and the finish circle.
- A route that is close to the great circle line. Note that the route is by no way a suggestion for a strategy.

Warning : the Great Circle Route is close to the the Antarctic. There are significant differences between the map used by MP and the VRTool medium resolution map. You must follow the MP coasts - in red on the above picture - which you can complete if required (I only extracted the coasts that are the closest to the Circle Route).
Furthermore, at these high latitudes, there is an enormous difference between the square cells used in the MP interface and the trapezoid cells given by the Mercator projection (at 66° S, the long base of the trapezoid equals 24.88 NM, its short base 23.92 NM and its height - invariable - 60 NM). It is therefore recommended to calculate your route using VRTool or Pacotool and to be careful of the the approximations shown by the VR interface. You can reread the section 15.4 in the guide to get further explanations.
The file to download is HopeHorn2013.zip. The folder name is HopeHorn2013 (no space). It is automatically created if you download the file to the VRTool main folder and use the option "extract here", which you get by right-clicking the file.
